Unit 24 Community Space

Thanks to the generosity of Gentian Sunnyday, the Bury Street Shopping Centre landlords, and Abingdon Town Council, the Friends of Abingdon are able to offer a town centre community space for voluntary groups and not-for-profit organisations to use.

“Unit 24” is a lovely space in the former H Samuel shop. We have had it since September 2023 and it has been very popular, with uses including the Heritage Open Days exhibition, Carbon Cutters’ apple pressing and monthly sewing repair workshops, PCSOs drop-in sessions, VWHDC “Active Communities” exercise sessions, a Woodcarving exhibition, Book Exchanges and many more.

One of the best things about it is that it is big enough for more than one group to be in there at once, which makes it much more lively and benefits everyone. We see this unit as core to our aim to promote community spirit and civic pride in our growing town.

We have to cover the costs of heating and electricity so depending on the event we may ask for a donation.

If you would like to know more, or maybe use it for one of the activities you are involved with, please contact us via email.
